Ode to a Library by Sarah E.
Every other Tuesday, impatiently I wait
Then I zoom down the hall with a frantic, girlish gait.
Open the door, look inside.
As I step in, my smile grows wide.
Look at all of the knickknacks lining the shelves
As for the books my fingers are itching to delve.
Bored, I listen to Ms. Allen telling us to remember
About the 40 Book Challenge I finished last September.
Finally, finally she sets us all free
I push back my chair, almost whooping with glee.
Straight to the fiction section I quickly run.
The other kids think it's weird that this is my idea of fun.
I grab three books about magic, heroes, and a cow.
Who cares if I'm reading five other books right now?
Stand in the line, on the tangerine mat.
Once I check out, I collapse on a chair and that's that.
Tenderly I open a book and then
Finally start reading about a dangerous glen.
Much too soon, the bell rings
Saying it's time to go to math and learn boring things.
Slowly I drag myself over to the door
Daydreaming about a tangled moor.
Before I leave, I turn and whisper to you
So long, dear library, I'll be back soon!
